Effective Immediately:


Yellow Pages Group has decided to suspend the Alberta Bid process effective
April 3, 2007.  Therefore, bids will no longer be accepted for any Alberta
publications (including Calgary 2007).  Previously, bids were incorporated
as Criteria # 3 in the ranking for full page and larger display ad
placement in Alberta print publications.

We are pleased to announce that Specialty Product spend has been added to
the "Spend in Heading" ranking criteria's calculation.  We encourage your
clients to reallocate bid dollars to incremental Specialty Product spend,
where advertisers will not only benefit from the added exposure of the
Specialty item, but it will also help with positioning their display ad
within the heading.

A revised Alberta Pagination Policy document will be loaded onto the CMR
Centre within the next few days.  It will be found on the Policies and
Procedures page.

Please note: This applies to all Alberta publications, regardless whether
they are currently open for national order processing.  A list of affected
publications can be found at the end of the Policies and Procedure
document.

                             PAGINATION POLICY
            Criteria for ranking of display ads for pagination
                           Revised April 3, 2007
                             For Alberta ONLY

1.  POLICY DESCRIPTION

This Yellow Pages Group pagination policy covers the order in which display
advertisements  are  ranked  for  placement under each heading in the print
directories in Alberta. The publications for which this revised policy will
first be introduced are listed later in this policy.


2.  PAGINATION CRITERIA AND TIE-BREAKERS OVERVIEW

A  common  set  of  criteria  for the ranking of display ads for pagination
covers all markets in Alberta:

Double Full Page and Full Page Ads:
Main criteria:
·     Size
·     Rate Card Value of the Ad
Tie-breakers:
·     Spend in Heading (after discount, except Summit/Rewards Program: SUM,
SUM50, SUM45, SUM 40, etc. and Customer Relations (CR) discount: CR-0).
Spend in Heading now includes Specialty Product  purchases (after
discounts) in the same directory that the display ad is booked on.
·     Spend in Book (Classified section - after discount, except
Summit/Rewards Program: SUM, SUM50, SUM45, SUM 40, etc. and Customer
Relations (CR) discount: CR-0)
·     Seniority
·     Alpha

Ads less than Full Page:
Main criteria:
·     Size
·     Rate Card Value of the Ad
Tie-breakers:
·     Spend in Heading (after discount, except SUM, SUM50, SUM45, SUM 40,
etc. and Customer Relations discount CR-0)
·     Seniority
·     Alpha


 3.  DEFINITIONS:

Primary Criteria

3.1.  Size:   Ads  are ranked first by Size of the ad.  This means a Double
Full Page ad appears before a Full Page ad, etc.
3.2.  Rate Card Value:  Within an ad size, ads are then ranked by Rate Card
Value of the ad.  This means that an ad with a more expensive colour option
would  go  first,  e.g. a Full Page Process Colour ad would appear before a
Full  Page 1 Colour ad and a Full Page 1 Colour ad before a Full Page Black
ad.   Note:  This  does  not  mean that a Full Page Process Colour ad would
appear before a Double Full Page Black ad.

Tie-Breakers

3.3. Spend in Heading:  This is the total billed amount (NI after discounts
applied  - except Summit/Rewards Program discounts (SUM, SUM50, SUM45, etc)
and  Customer Relations discount for previous edition errors (CR-0)) of all
items  in  that  heading  for  the  Customer ID (telephone number) that the
display ad is booked on.  Other display ads, informationals and listings in
the  heading  count  towards this as well as the Coupon portion of a Double
Truck-Coupon  product.   The  Summit/Rewards  Program discounts SUM, SUM50,
SUM45  etc  will  be  excluded  from  the  calculation  as well as Customer
Relations  discount  -  the ads will be counted at Rate Card Value to avoid
penalizing our largest customers for using these rewards and customers that
we  are  trying  to  compensate  for  an  error.  In addition, any spend on
Specialty  Product in the same directory (after discounts) that the display
ad  is  booked  on,  will  be  included  in  the  total  Spend  in  Heading
calculation.

3.4.  Spend  in  Book:  This is the total billed amount (NI after discounts
applied - except Summit/Rewards Program discounts (SUM, SUM50, SUM45, etc.)
and  Customer Relations discount for previous edition errors (CR-0)) of all
items in the Classified section for the Customer ID (telephone number) that
the display ad is booked on.

3.5.  Seniority:  This uses the date on which the contract for that ad size
was  signed,  known in DSMP as the Position Date (for National advertisers,
it  is the date the order was received through Elite).  Ads with an earlier
position date will paginate first.

Seniority  was  introduced  to  AB directories in 2005 editions (except St.
Albert,  Sherwood  Park, Grande Prairie, Red Deer and Drumheller which were
2004  editions).   All  ads  in  the previous edition of the directory were
given  the  same  position  date.  All new ads placed / increased in size /
decreased  in  size  during  the  next and subsequent canvasses are given a
position date of the date the contract is signed.

3.7. Alpha:  Ads will be placed finally in Alphabetical order, based on the
anchor name (listed name).  Reps are required to ensure the Listed Name for
the  Advertiser  is  legitimate  as far as possible i.e. they are operating
under that name, and that it is the dominant name in the ad.


4.  GENERAL


4.1. Throughout this policy, the following definitions apply:

Advertiser:   means the legal entity represented in a display advertisement
or listing in an online or printed directory.

CMR:   means  a  Certified  Marketing  Representative  as accredited by the
Yellow  Pages Association (YPA) to place directory advertising on behalf of
Advertisers.

4.2.  Yellow  Pages Group may modify or terminate this pagination policy at
any time without prior notice to Advertisers or CMRs.

4.3.  Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in this pagination
policy,  Yellow  Pages  Group reserves the right to adjust the placement of
display  advertisements  or  listings  to ensure the integrity and esthetic
appearance of its directory publications.

4.4. Yellow Pages Group shall be the final arbiter of any disputes over the
placement  of  display  advertisements or listings in a directory or of any
other  matter  in  relation  to  this  pagination  policy, and Yellow Pages
Group's decision in this regard shall be final and binding.

4.5.  Yellow  Pages Group reserves the right, in its sole discretion and at
any  time,  to  exclude  any  Advertiser  or CMR from participation in this
pagination  policy  and to refuse to provide any Advertiser or CMR with any
or  all  directory  services  provided  by  Yellow  Pages Group if, without
limitation:

a)     the  Advertiser  or  CMR  is  in  breach  of  any applicable laws or
regulations;

b)     the  Advertiser or CMR is in breach of this pagination policy or any
other  agreements  the  Advertiser  or  CMR  has  with  Yellow Pages Group,
including, without limitation, under any loyalty, reward, or other policies
or programs (referred to as "Other Agreements");

c)     there  is  any  complaint  or  allegation  made  or  dispute  raised
concerning  the  Advertiser's  or  CMR's potential or actual breach of this
pagination  policy, any laws or regulations, or concerning the Advertiser's
right  to  use  any  or  all  names, text, logos, illustrations and photos,
including  the  associated  intellectual property (trademarks, trade names,
copyright  etc.)  contained  in any display advertisements or listings in a
directory; or

d)    the Advertiser or CMR makes any misrepresentations, including without
limitation,  any  false  or frivolous complaints or allegations pursuant to
section (c) above, to Yellow Pages Group in connection with this pagination
policy  or any Other Agreements the Advertiser or CMR has with Yellow Pages
Group.

4.6.  IN  NO  EVENT SHALL YELLOW PAGES GROUP BE LIABLE TO ANY ADVERTISER OR
CMR  FOR ANY LOSSES (INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, AN ADVERTISER'S BUSINESS
LOSSES),  DAMAGES,  COSTS  OR  EXPENSES OF ANY NATURE WHATSOEVER, RESULTING
FROM OR IN CONNECTION WITH THIS PAGINATION POLICY, EVEN IF CAUSED BY YELLOW
PAGES  GROUP  NEGLIGENCE  OR  IF YELLOW PAGES GROUP HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE
POSSIBILITY THEREOF.

4.7. By placing advertising directly with Yellow Pages Group, or indirectly
through  a CMR, the Advertiser is deemed to have accepted the terms of this
pagination  policy  and  agrees  to  fully  comply  with  it.   By  placing
advertising  with  Yellow Pages Group, a CMR is deemed to have accepted the
terms of this pagination policy and agrees to fully comply with it.

4.8.  CMRs  are  responsible  for adhering to Yellow Pages Group publishing
practices,   rules  and  policies,  and  for  payment  for  advertising  in
accordance with their YPA accreditation.


5.  RELATED POLICIES

5.1. Listed Name Policy:
Covers  rules  associated  with  the use of names, and customer obligations
regarding  their  right to use names provided to Yellow Pages Group.  Every
display  ad  has an anchor name associated with it.  The entire listed name
used  as  the anchor name must be the dominant name used in the display ad.
Anchor  names determine placement where alphabetical order is used based on
Yellow Pages Group Compilation policy.

5.2. Compilation Policy
Identifies  in  detail  the  order  in  which  listings,  display ad anchor
listings,   trademark  listings  and  informational  listings  are  sorted,
including the precedence of multiple letters in a listed name.

This  policy  will  apply  to  the  following  publication editions and all
subsequent editions until further notice:

If one picture is worth 1,000 words what are 7,297 pictures worth?

 

Announcing the 2007 Map Sea-rch Directory Distribution Maps on CD-ROM

 

 

For those familiar with Map Sea-rch, the 2007 version will be available at the end of April.  The newest version will include directory distribution maps for all directories listed in May 2007 Rates and Data.  The maps will appear as overlays on maps presenting cities, states, major roads, rivers, lakes, etc.   The have been several thousand changes in directory distribution since the 2006 was published as well as nearly 400 new directories developed in the past year.

 

For those unfamiliar or those who have not used Map Sea-rch  before,  Map Sea-rch is a CD-ROM based set of dependable directory distribution maps  that are color coded  by distribution type; core distribution – the directory (or a portion of the directory) is published by its telephone company affiliate,  or an overlay directory – the directory (or a portion of the directory) overlays a core directory.

 

Each map is a unique GIF file and can be viewed using the Map Sea-rch software provided with the directory boundary files.  A few mouse clicks and you have opened one or more distribution maps.  All maps use the same formats and present a consistent means of presenting directory distribution areas.  Maps can be printed or copied into word processing documents, spreadsheets, or PowerPoint presentations.

 

There are scores of uses for Map Sea-rch distribution maps.   These include but are not limited to:

a. The presentation quality maps can be used to show advertisers where their advertising dollars are spent.  They can accompany your ad recommendations or to show where you have purchased advertising.

b.  Business locations and radii can be plotted on directory distribution maps to evaluate a directory’s geographic relationship to the advertiser’s business location or service area.

c. Media planners can differentiate between core distribution and extended distribution to help them develop efficient plans.

d. Map Sea-rch can be used to demonstrate your capabilities to prospective advertisers.
